Series stars to stud: Farhh

He only ran twice this season, but when the five-year-old made it to the track, he made it count.

Before the 2013 campaign, the Godolphin-owned horse had spent the majority of his career finishing narrowly behind equine superstars, including So You Think in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, Nathaniel in the Coral-Eclipse and inimitable Frankel in the Sussex Stakes and Juddmonte International Stakes.

However, this year brought good fortune for Farhh.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained horse reappeared for the season in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May, where the focus was on the subsequent Queen Anne Stakes and 2013 Juddmonte International Stakes winner, Declaration of War.

Though, with a dominant display, the Silvestre De Sousa-ridden star comfortably eased passed his rivals to register a four-length success at the Berkshire track in stunning fashion.

A Royal Ascot performance was then on the agenda for Farhh, but an injury sustained before the meeting meant that a tilt at a victory on the world’s biggest stage was not to be.

It was not until QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot that the racing public would get to see him again. It would turn out to be for the final time.

The QIPCO Champion Stakes provided Farhh with the perfect platform to shine.

Always prominent, he endured a close battle with 2011 champion Cirrus des Aigles and Epsom Derby winner Ruler of The World in the closing stages. He eventually prevailed by an incredibly tight margin – a neck.

Following the victory, connections immediately retired Farhh.

He will now stand at Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud for stallion duties along with likes of New Approach, Dubawi and Exceed And Excel.
