Quickthorn was not for catching as he and Tom Marquand registered an awesome six length win in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup.
Repeating the ploy that served them so well in last year’s Lonsdale Cup, Marquand and Quickthorn dominated from the front. So aggressive were the frontrunning tactics, that by the time they turned for home in the two mile contest, the pair were 30 lengths clear of their rivals.

By the time the other jockeys realised that Quickthorn wasn’t slowing down the game was gone. He showed no signs of stopping as he recorded a first Group 1 success; Emily Dickinson and Coltrane filled out the placings.
Speaking to ITV Racing afterwards Tom Marquand reflected: “He’s a warrior in his own right. I’ve had a bit of fun on him before on big days and he just loves bowling away and putting everyone else to the sword.
“It’s plain and simple what we are going to do on him and it’s testament to him that they still couldn’t stop him. He’s a hell of a lot of fun. We knew what he could do and you know he’s going to be there for you in a fight, but he didn’t even need to do that today.”
