This year’s QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup has received a total of 37 entries including Kyprios, who has made such a remarkable return from life-threatening injury during the 2024 season. The prolific, six time Group 1 winning son of Galileo showed guts and determination to regain the Gold Cup under Ryan Moore at Royal Ascot in June and subsequently remains unbeaten this season, having cruised to Goodwood Cup success in remarkable fashion just last week. The six-year-old, second to Trawlerman in a thrilling tactical event here last October is one of 15 entries in the race for trainer Aidan O’ Brien.

Trawlerman, winner of the race in 2023 and second behind Kyprios in the Ascot Gold Cup on his only start this season has been entered alongside his stable’s 2023 Gold Cup winner Courage Mon Ami, with Sweet William, Gregory and Arrest rounding off the Gosden quintet.
Other notable entries include the Alan King-trained 8yo Trueshan, who recorded a remarkable hat-trick of wins in this race between 2020 and 2022, the swiftly improving Alsakib for Andrew Balding and runaway 2023 Goodwood Cup winner Quickthorn for Hughie Morrison.
Willie Mullins and Henry de Bromhead have also made preliminary entries, with Vauban, Belloccio and Absurde set to represent the master of Closutton and Term Of Endearment entered for de Bromhead. Both National Hunt focussed trainers are no strangers to success on the flat, with Mullins notably claiming the Ebor in 2023 and de Bromhead plundering Group 2 honours with his Long Distance Cup entrant just last week.
