She carries the best form from last year into the QIPCO 1000 Guineas, the second race in the QIPCO British Champions Series and the first in the Fillies & Mares category, but will Hooray have what it takes to give her trainer, Sir Mark Prescott, his first victory in a British Classic?
His concerns as to whether she has thrived over the winter since her brilliant win in the Cheveley Park Stakes last October are well documented, while there is also doubt as to whether her stamina will last out the one mile trip. There will be no hiding places in Sunday’s fiercely competitive race, so the answer will be emphatically revealed.
Seb Sanders’ mount faces 18 rivals including the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Havant, who was unbeaten in two starts last year, French raider Moonlight Cloud, the Richard Hannon-trained Memory and Aidan O’Brien’s highly regarded Misty For Me.
The race looks to be wide open and promises a magnificent spectacle on the Rowley Mile, so make sure you go along if you possibly can. Tickets, which start at £10, are still available and will be on sale at the gate. All accompanied children aged under 18 are admitted free and there will be lots of rree activities to keep them occupied.
If you can’t make it, then catch all the action live on Channel 4 or the satellite subscription channel, Racing UK. The QIPCO 1000 Guineas is due off at 3.15pm, but don’t miss all the build-up from 2pm.
