Duncan victorious in first Long Distance race

Duncan’s pillar-to-post victory in the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup, the first race of the seven Long Distance races in the QIPCO British Champions Series, has put his trainer John Gosden and jockey William Buick on the leaderboards for the top trainer and jockey of the 35 race Series.

The six-year-old may now head for the second race in the Long Distance division, the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on Thursday 16 June.

Chris McFadden, Chairman of British Champions Series Ltd, commented: “Today’s winner, Duncan, has a touch of class and looks like playing a major role in the QIPCO British Champions Series long distance races which reinforces two of the Series’ main purposes – to highlight our best Flat races and emphasise the link between the races in each of the categories for the benefit of the wider public.”

QIPCO BRITISH CHAMPIONS SERIES JOCKEY OF THE SERIES LEADERBOARD (AFTER 3 RACES)

Tom Queally, Frankie Dettori & William Buick each have one winner.

Both championships are decided on the number of winners ridden/trained across the 35 race series. In the event of a tie, the number of seconds and thirds (and, if necessary, lower placings) will be taken into account. The winners will be presented with a specially commissioned trophy on QIPCO British Champions at Ascot on Saturday 15 October and their nominated charity will receive a cheque for £25,000.
