Carlton House, owned by The Queen, heads 13 declared runners for the world’s greatest Flat race, the £1.25m Investec Derby at Epsom tomorrow.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt appears to have come through the injury scare that emerged earlier in the week and is reported on course for the one and half mile contest around the undulating Epsom Downs which is due off at 4pm and will be shown live on BBC TV.
"We are pleased to report that Carlton House did a good exercise this morning and he is very much still on target for Saturday’s Investec Derby," Her Majesty’s racing manager John Warren said yesterday.
The Queen has never owned the Derby winner despite nine attempts. Can Carlton House pull off a famous Royal victory?
He has what could be considered a good draw in stall 13, but can one be sure that he will have the stamina for very demanding Epsom course?
To find out more about the significance of the starting stalls draw at Epsom and the vital importance that a horse has the stamina for the Investec Derby trip, as well as lots of fascinating interviews with the connections of the leading contenders in both the Investec Derby and this afternoon’s Investec Oaks, you can watch an excellent Epsom video preview.
