Frankel returns to the scene of one of his finest hours

The sight of the brilliant Frankel, pictured here winning last year’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas, working on the track before racing on Saturday will be one of several added attractions for racegoers at Newmarket this weekend as the 2012 QIPCO British Champions Series gets off to a flying start. Racegoers at this weekend’s QIPCO Guineas Festival, which launches the 2012 QIPCO British Champions Series, will have the chance to see the world’s best horse in action with Frankel due to work on the Rowley Mile before racing on Saturday.

Viewers at home will also be able to see Frankel live on Racing UK with the gallop free-to-air on the satellite channel.

Khalid Abdulla’s brilliant miler lit up the racing world at last year’s QIPCO Guineas Festival with a scintillating display of front-running to win the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, the first Series race, by six lengths.

He subsequently went on to annex the St James’s Palace Stakes and the QIPCO Sussex Stakes before ending his season with another outstanding performance as he readily captured the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes sponsored by QIPCO at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day in October.

The Sir Henry Cecil-trained colt, who has yet to taste defeat in nine career starts, will be making his first racecourse appearance since recovering from a leg injury he sustained in April.

Frankel is scheduled to arrive at 12.30pm and is expected to work with Bullet Train and Jet Away at approximately 12.55pm.
