Camelot’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas and Investec Derby triumphs and Frankel’s JLT Lockinge Stakes victory have been selected by the panel of racing experts as the three races on the shortlist for the first QIPCO British Champions Series “Performance of the Month” vote which is now open.

Anyone who votes will automatically be entered into a free prize draw to win a pair of tickets to an upcoming QIPCO British Champions Series raceday.

The case for Camelot’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas

Manchester United and England footballer and racehorse owner and breeder, Michael Owen, was the strongest advocate of Camelot’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas victory at Newmarket on 5 May, rating it as his top performance:

“The Guineas trip could easily have found out the son of Montjeu but a willing attitude, allied with his undoubted class, shone through in what was an outstanding win. His subsequent Derby victory serves only to magnify what he achieved at Newmarket.”

The case for Camelot’s Investec Derby

Channel 4 Racing and Racing UK presenter, Nick Luck, ranked Camelot’s Investec Derby win on 2 June as his number one, saying:

“A complete performance: composed and classy and achieved in an excellent time relative to a well run Coronation Cup.”

BBC Radio’s racing correspondent, Cornelius Lysaght, agreed, saying:

“A pretty magical performance from Camelot in the Derby with masses of promise of more to come…going for the Triple Crown in the St Leger I suspect.”

The case for Frankel’s JLT Lockinge Stakes

Sky Sports News presenter, Alex Hammond, was a big fan of Frankel’s JLT Lockinge Stakes victory at Newbury on 19 May, saying:

“He has to get my top vote. He seems to be even better this year as he matures and settles.

"He suffered what was seemingly a serious setback a few weeks before this race which makes this even more meritorious and if he shows improvement for his first run back, it gives his future rivals little chance of beating him.”

The Racing Post’s Lee Mottershead was another advocate for Frankel’s JLT Lockinge triumph and summed up the first month with this:

"It is hard to imagine that the opening races in this year’s QIPCO British Champion Series could have produced better performances. Summer has barely started and already we have been treated to many racing riches.

"Of Camelot’s two Classic wins, the Guineas victory ranks higher with me simply because, on breeding, he was set a harder task at Newmarket than Epsom.

"However, in terms of what was achieved on the racecourse, nothing beats Frankel and his Lockinge victory, in which the world’s best racehorse arguably produced his best performance yet. How can you top that?"

The voting will remain open until 10am on Friday (15 June). To watch the three races again and cast your vote, CLICK HERE.
