Black Caviar laps up the media attention

A huge throng of media, including no less than 11 camera crews from around the world, descended on the Newmarket gallops at the crack of dawn this morning to see Australia’s equine superstar, Black Caviar, have her morning exercise.

The unbeaten mare did a slow canter round the Al Bahathri polytrack just before 5am before returning to her Abington Place base, in Jane Chapple-Hyam’s stables.

She looked very happy and relaxed and has clearly suffered no ill effects after her 30 hour journey from Melbourne last week.

Everything is now geared around her first ever race outside Australia, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot a week on Saturday, the third sprint in the QIPCO British Champions Series, for which she is the red hot 1-3 favourite with most bookmakers.

“She’s not a princess, in fact she’s more like a colt, but she knows she’s special,” said Jeff O’Connor, racing manager for trainer Peter Moody, as the remarkable sprinter lapped up the media attention.

"She’s here, she’s rock hard fit and she’s ready to go," he added.

Peter Moody will arrive in the UK tonight to supervise the final preparations for his stable star as she seeks win number 22 in her unparalleled career.
