Stars out to claim more Champions Day success

Rite of Passage and Maarek, the champions of last year’s QIPCO Long Distance Cup and Sprint Stakes, will bid for repeat glory on October 19^th at Ascot for QIPCO British Champions Day, with the second and third-placed horses in those races also entered to take revenge.

The defeated opponents to Rite of Passage in 2012, Aiken and Askar Tau, are amongst the 61 entries for the opening race on Champions Day, with Her Majesty The Queen’s Ascot Gold Cup champion, Estimate, the most prominent of them all.

A victory for Her Majesty at the Berkshire course would provide her with her first British Champions Day success and keep Estimate’s unbeaten record at Ascot in tact.

Willie Mullins’ staying star Simenon is also entered, while the Ormonde Stakes winner Mount Athos also features among the top-class entries.

Hawkeyethenoo and Sirius Prospect will be hoping to grace the winners’ enclosure after the QIPCO Sprint Stakes following last year’s defeat to Maarek.

However, all three will face stiff competition from a strong sprinting field.

Among the 49 entries include Diamond Jubilee and Darley July Cup winner Lethal Force, the James Fanshawe-trained Society Rock and Mike De Koch’s unbeaten colt Soft Falling Rain.

Also entered are QPR Manager Harry Redknapp’s Moveista, who was an impressive winner at Glorious Goodwood last week, and Lee Westwood’s 2011 Stewards’ Cup champion Hoof It.
