Reckless Abandon misses Sprint Cup clash at Haydock

Reckless Abandon has been pulled out of the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock Park after being reported lame by his trainer Clive Cox.

The three-year-old, who is already a two-time Group 1 winner, was the second favourite for the Group 1 contest, but recent complications have resulted in the colt being declared a non-runner for the Merseyside showpiece.

After a striking two-year-old campaign last season, Reckless Abandon has not quite lived up to the lofty expectations placed on him for 2013.

He finished third in the Temple Stakes at Haydock on his seasonal reappearance, before going on to finish fifth at Royal Ascot in the King’s Stand Stakes.

Connections will be hoping Reckless Abandon can bounce back to former stardom as soon as possible and, with an entry in the Group 2 QIPCO Champion Sprint Stakes, British Champions Day on the 19^th October could provide the perfect platform.

Lethal Force, also trained by Cox, is still the clear market leader for the Betfred Sprint Cup, where he could become the first horse since Frankel to win three British Champions Series races in a single campaign.
