Ahzeemah is a tough opponent for any horse and has a real will to win, as endorsed by his gutsy victory in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup at York last month, when defeating Simenon by a head in race four in the Long Distance division of the QIPCO British Champions Series.

Race five takes place at Doncaster on Friday and the Godolphin-owned gelding is one of 13 entries for the two and a quarter mile contest.

His potential opponents include stable companion Colour Vision, who has yet to recapture his Ascot Gold Cup-winning form from last year, and Times Up, who won this race last year and ran his best race of the season so far when third to Ahzeemah at York, albeit beaten by three lengths.

High Jinx, a close second to Times Up in this race a year ago, has to be respected for in-form trainer James Fanshawe, while the Aidan O’Brien-trained Ernest Hemingway is a fascinating contender, though he did disappoint last time when long odds-on favourite in the Irish St Leger Trial last month.

Biographer, trained by David Lanigan, also has useful form, while the other entries – Chiberta King, Desert Recluse, Mutual Regard, Repeater, Tac De Boistron, Tropical Beat and Statutory – all have a bit to find on the form book.
