Oaks winner Dancing Rain sells for 4 million Guineas

The 2011 Investec Oaks winner Dancing Rain sold for four million guineas while in foal to Frankel at the Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale.

William Haggas’s superstar, who also won the inaugural QIPCO British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes in 2011 at Ascot, was one of the 126 mares to be covered by the unbeaten British racing legend.

The four million guineas-price was paid for by Sheikh Mohammed, the winning owner of this year’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas champion, Dawn Approach, and will now reside among Darley’s breeding operation.

Also at Tattersalls, another former Champion Series race contender broke the European record, when Immortal Verse, in foal to Juddmonte stallion Dansili, sold for 4.7 million guineas.

The mare, a third-place finisher in the 2011 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes to Frankel on QIPCO British Champions Day, was bought by Coolmore along with the Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes winner, Rosdhu Queen, for 2.1 million guineas.

Purr Along, trained by Lambourn-based William Muir, was sold for 1 million guineas to Newsells Park Stud and Qatar Racing.

The four-year-old filly, who finished fourth in the Etihad Falmouth Stakes, will remain in training for next season and is likely to move to another trainer.

Throughout the sale, the dams that produced Ascot Gold Cup champion Colour Vision, sprinting superstar Lethal Force and QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes victor Slade Power were all sold.
