Forgotten Rules proving too good on Champions Day last year.
Forgotten Rules will be prepared to defend his crown in the QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions Day, according to connections.
Unbeaten in his first five starts before finishing third in unfavourable conditions at Royal Ascot in the Gold Cup, Dermot Weld’s five-year-old was unable to bounce back to winning ways in the Irish St Leger behind Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old star, Order of St George.
Forgotten Rules and Order of St George will now go head-to-head in an exciting battle on Champions Day.
Fiona Craig, breeding advisor Moyglare Stud (Forgotten Rules’ owners), told the Press Association: “We were a little bit disappointed, but I think two miles is probably just his trip.
"He had to do it himself a little bit towards the front and he probably just lacks the turn of foot at that level over a mile and three-quarters.
"He’s come out of it fine and it has always been the plan to take him back to Ascot for the stayers’ cup (QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup."
