Four QIPCO British Champions Series winners will form part of a glittering cast on Dubai World Cup night at Meydan on Saturday.
Sole Power and Goldream, winners in the Sprint category of the Series, feature among the contenders for the Al Quoz Sprint (2.10). The former, still going strong at the age of nine, is seeking to repeat his triumph of 12 months ago in the five-furlong event.
Big Orange, who landed last year’s Qatar Goodwood Cup, will contest the 2m Dubai Gold Cup (12.55), while Postponed, who scooped the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, is likely to start favourite for the 1m4f Dubai Sheema Classic (4.20).
Postponed won with authority on his return at Meydan this month on his first start for Roger Varian, having previously been trained by Luca Cumani.
“He should come on for his first run for me and I am very happy with him going into the weekend,” Varian said. “He didn’t run in the Arc so coming out here seemed the logical thing to do and he has had a great preparation.
“His jockey Andrea Atzeni knows him well, he is a very straightforward horse and he must have a big chance.”
It could be a meeting to savour for Varian because he will also saddle the exciting Intilaaq in the 1m1f Dubai Turf (3.45). Tryster, Euro Charlene, Gabrial, The Corsican and Very Special give Britain a strong hand in the race.
