Both of Godolphin’s young retained riders William Buick and James Doyle were seen to be both brimming with confidence when asked to warm up for Royal Ascot with a Euro 2016 inspired challenge.
The boys in blue were meant to be focused on beating Ex-England footballer Michael Owen in a keepy-ups football challenge but the jockeys clearly only had eyes for besting each other and sealing the weighing room bragging rights.
William Buick said: “I would love to beat Michael Owen, but it’s more important I beat my Godolphin team mate James Doyle. I’ve always said I’m a better footballer and now I have chance to prove it.” Charlie Appleby’s number one got off to a rock-solid start at Kempton.
James Doyle said in response: “We’re competitive on the racetrack and we’re competitive off it. We can’t help it as jockeys – so I’m going for the win.”
Keep an eye on how the rest of the weighing room get on by following the hashtag #KeepUpWithOwen throughout the week of Royal Ascot.
