Nazeef gets up in Tattersalls Falmouth thriller

Jim Crowley and Nazeef flew home late to foil two-time Series winner Billesdon Brook  in a thrilling Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes.

A select field of six lined up for the fillies’ Group 1 on Newmarket’s July course, with Terebellum the hot-favourite under Frankie Dettori. It was her stablemate however who would come out on top with a late surge in the final furlong to take the honours.

Dettori and Terebellum decided to make the running early on and held that position for most of the race. With a steady gallop being set in the early stages, the race then unfolded into a sprint in the final furlong and a half.

Nazeef was the first to come under heavy pressure by Jim Crowley into the dip. With Billesdon Brook travelling smoothly in behind, and Terebellum a length out in front.

However, in the closing stages it was Nazeef who finished much the strongest to close and head Dettori and his mount. The final challenge would come from the former QIPCO 1000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook who surged late but couldn’t close the gap.
