Celebrating Horse Racing’s Heroes
Prize money for this year’s QIPCO British Champions Day on Saturday 17th October, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, will stand at £2.5million, retaining its position as the richest raceday in Great Britain, despite the impact of coronavirus.
The feature race of the day, the QIPCO Champion Stakes will be run for £750,000, making it the most valuable British race to be contested this year and is worth five times the minimum value of a Group 1 race, as published by the BHA in July 2020.
Rod Street, Chief Executive of British Champions Series said, “We are pleased to be able to stage a card worth £2.5 million on QIPCO British Champions Day despite our income streams being so negatively affected and the enormous challenges facing the sport currently. QIPCO British Champions Day has seen some superlative performances over the past decade and it is hugely important to us that we continue to make running a horse on the day as attractive as possible. We are very grateful for QIPCO’s long-standing partnership of British Champions Series and British Champions Day which has enabled us to make this early commitment.”
The supporting card on QIPCO British Champions Day features a further three Group 1 contests, headed by the £650,000 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO), with both the QIPCO British Champions Fillies and Mares and the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes each run for £350,000.
As has happened in each of the previous nine QIPCO British Champions Days, races will close early, this year on the later date of 1st September.
