Celebrating Horse Racing’s Heroes
June 3rd 2022 will be a day to remember for trainer Owen Burrows, who secured his first Group 1 since taking out his license. Hukum breezed to success in the DahlBury Coronation Cup, a first win in the race for ownership powerhouse, Shadwell.
Up against last year’s winner, Pyledriver, patience was a virtue for Hukum as winning jockey Jim Crowley eased upside Dettori on Pyledriver two furlongs out. It was Crowley’s mount that pushed on further to go clear and land the spoils.
Pyledriver stayed on at one pace to take second and heads to the King George at Ascot next, but it was all about Hukum. The son of Sea The Seas was all class in the field of six, and looks to be a smart prospect for Burrows moving forward.
I always thought he might win a Group One
The trainer, visibly over the moon with the success, remarked: “I always thought he might win a Group One, he looked progressive there so we’ll have to see where we go next. “A bit of juice is important, but he’s pretty versatile. He’s in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, he’s in a German Group One, he’s in the Irish St Leger and then we possibly thought Canada. I thought we might have to travel to win one, but we might have to rethink that now.”
