Brilliant Baaeed the “best since Frankel” after easy Queen Anne success

Baaeed Queen Anne

Not many milers have managed to follow in the footsteps of the mighty Frankel, but Baaeed showed his brilliance in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot to emulate the great champion and also extend his unbeaten run to eight.

The William Haggas-trained four year old had been unbeaten in his previous seven starts, inluding a win in the Al Shaqab Lockinge at Newbury in May.

All the noise in the lead up to the race had seen him compared to arguably the greatest of all time – just to be mentioned in the same breath highlights the talent that Baaeed holds and has already shown on a racecourse.

He faced six rivals in the Queen Anne Stakes, the first race of the Royal meeting that was welcoming full crowds back for the first time since 2019.

Neiher of those six rivals landed below. Travelling smoothly and settling early on, traits trainer Haggas was keen to point out in his post race interview, set Baaeed up to extend away from the field in the closing stages.

Real World stayed on very well in second, and Order of Australia took the final place in third. However, this day was all about the winner.

A step up in trip looks to be on the cards and surely then, if he remains unbeaten, the comparisions with Frankel will be truely justified.
