Nature Strip flies the flag for Australia in King’s Stand

Nature Strip

Australian horses already had a very good record at Royal Ascot before today – it makes sense given the distance they travel that they only bring their best. The best is exactly what they did bring to the 2022 King’s Stand Stakes.

Nature Strip came in to the King’s Stand Stakes as the highest rated sprinter in the world for a reason. Earnings of over eight million, Grade 1 wins under his belt, and five years of experience to boot. All qualities that stood him out from his rivals.

The race itself was an international affair with Wesley Ward coming from the opposite side of the globe with Golden Pal, a horse who stands out in any paddock.

But it was to be Australia who took the spoils.

In such a short race it was clear from a very long way out that Nature Strip was getting a dream ride under James Mcdonald. A furlong from home he asked the question of Nature Strip and the response was immediate.

The rest, as they say, is history. The winning margin? Four and a half lengths.

The best feeling for James McDonald mst have been riding back in front of the packed Ascot Grandstand to raptures of appluase. We may not get to see the best from the southern hemisphere that often, but when they do, the leave their mark – dare we even mention Black Caviar…

Hopefully this success will be a further gateway for Australian horses in the future to grace us with their presence at Royal Ascot.
