Minzaal delivered a breathtaking performance to romp home to victory in Haydock’s Betfair Sprint Cup.
Ridden by Jim Crowley who secured his 6th Group 1 win of the season, Minzaal hit the front a furlong from home but stayed on powerfully to record an impressive victory.
Minzaal is owned by Shadwell, who are enjoying a remarkable season with the outstanding success of Baaeed.
Minzaal had long promised to deliver a Group 1 and was 7-2 pre-race with Naval Crown also at short odds.
Last year’s winner Emaraaty Ana was second at 7-1 with Rohaan, another 7-1 chance, third. Naval Crown finished a disappointing 11th place.
Trained by Owen Burrows, he was third at the highest level in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes, but his most recent efforts – a win in Newbury’s Hackwood Stakes and second in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest – were promising for all the connections.
.A Group 1 contest, Haydock Park’s Betfair Sprint Cup is run over six furlongs (1,200 metres) for three-year-olds or older horses and is the biggest flat race of the season at the Lancashire track.
