Major upset in the Coral Doncaster Cup Stakes with Coltrane beating the odds on favourite Trueshan by a neck.
The Andrew Balding trained gelding travelled in the middle of the pack throughout. Once turning for home, Jockey David Probert found a gap on the inside, taking Coltrane on that route to the finish line leading narrowly to Trueshan and Lismore in the closing stages.

After listed victory, this race is the highest class race Coltrane has won to date after coming second, last month at York behind Quickthorn.
“He’s done us proud as he’s had a long season and we keep thinking he’s going to cry enough, but he’s so tough and game.
With this being Cotrane’s eighth race of the year, Balding was impressed with his performance. “He’s done us proud as he’s had a long season and we keep thinking he’s going to cry enough, but he’s so tough and game.”
Trueshan, the top-rated stayer finally got the soft ground trainer Alan King had been waiting for all season. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough with only letting himself go in the final furlong.
“I’ve got to speak to the owners but I’d say it’s Champions Day at Ascot or nowhere. I’m not going to get him back in two and a half weeks. I hope we get really soft ground, otherwise I might put him away for the winter.”
We will hopefully see him again at QIPCO British Champions Day as the trainer stated post race “I’ve got to speak to the owners but I’d say it’s Champions Day at Ascot or nowhere. I’m not going to get him back in two and a half weeks. I hope we get really soft ground, otherwise I might put him away for the winter.”
