Oisin Murphy delivered a perfect ride aboard Khaadem to steer the horse to back-to-back victories in the Group 1 contest for Charlie Hills. Winning the race for a second successive year, Khaadem became the first eight year old to claim the race.
12 months ago, Charlie Hills was a 80-1 shock winner of the race when Khaadem rose to glory, bouncing back to his best on favoured ground to defend his crown a year on. Hills said, “What a horse. Two win of of these plus a Palace House, a Stewards’ Cup and a King George at Goodwood”.
Karl Burke’s Swingalong put up a gallant effort to be beaten by half a length, having been in front for much of the six-furlong test.
Travelling strongly, Oisin Murphy asked for more and the answer was instantaneous, saying, “He came alive as they slowed down, he was always going to win because he was the only one finishing”.
