Montassib just held off the challenge of Kind of Blue to win the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park. Rider Cieren Fallon roared with joy as the 25/1 son of Exceed and Excel crossed the line, having had to dig deep to just get past the runner-up.

Speaking to ITV immediately after the race, winning rider Fallon commented “What a performance. He’s a horse you have to ride with a lot of confidence and take your time on. It can be frustrating on a hold-up horse looking for gaps.
“This horse has done nothing but improve this year and I’m very lucky to keep on him. It’s my first one for Mr (William) Haggas, who has supported me since I was a kid. He’s been like a father to me in the sport, and if it wasn’t for him and Maureen I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
A run in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes was put forward as the next logical target for Montassib by trainer William Haggas post-race.
