David Menuisier’s Tamfana took a big step forward as she landed her first Group 1 in the Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
She had come close at the track earlier this season, running into a close fourth in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas. This time the task was simple. Colin Keane took the ride and kept his mount prominent throughout.

With a shake of the reigns, the three-year-old kicked on, away from last year’s winner Inspiral. Tamfana powered on up the hill to finish two-lengths clear, much to the delight of her trainer who said; “She did exactly what we hoped she would.”
“We kept it simple, I said to Colin she travels well and quickens so respect the filly because she’ll take you there. For once everything went smoothly and she really deserves this. She really does.”
“This is what is great for racing. It’s good having the big owners but also the big syndicates being rewarded, this filly was bought by Jeremy Brummitt for €20,000. She’s beating some of the most well-bred horses for some of the biggest owners in the world, it’s just magic.”
Ascot is her likeliest next destination for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at QIPCO British Champions Day.
