Snow Lantern avenged her dam Sky Lantern’s heartbreak in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, winning under a super-cool ride by jockey Sean Levey at Newmarket.
Before the race Richard Hannon had described it as ‘the one that got away’ for the great Sky Lantern, however that was put to bed as her filly Snow Lantern quickened smartly in the final furlong to pick up the win.
In a race where Royal Ascot winner Alcohol Free took them along under Oisin Murphy. The pace was a medium and the horse gathered on the far side rail. This meant that Snow Lantern was trapped for a long time on the rail, with plenty of horses blocking her way.
However, the ice-cool Sean Levey never panicked. Biding his time as they came into the stretch. The gap finally came and Levey was able to pull her out, and she responded when asked for her effort.
Snow Lantern accelerated and picked off Alcohol Free and Mother Earth in the final stages to claim victory,
A clearly emotional Richard Hannon Jnr, said: “There was a bit of a score to settle today after what happened 8 years ago. I’m delighted for her and everyone who bred her.”
