She may have been off the track since last season, but that didn’t stop Inspiral putting in one of the performances of the week at Royal Ascot in the Coronation Stakes.
The week had been very tough for her jockey Frankie Dettori, who had hit the bar on many occasions and most notably with Stradivarius, however the pressure was released in style thanks to Inspiral’s maginificent performance.
The Coronation Stakes itself was another great example of an international affair at Royal Ascot with runners from Ireland, France and the USA all joing the British runners. The race also had several runners who had all previously established themselves at the highest level – including QIPCO 1000 Guineas winner Cachet.

The winner, Inspiral was actually very slow to start and didn;t settle in Dettori’s ideal position. She was pushed back quite early on behind most of her rivals with Cachet making the running.
Turning for home Cachet’s lead was challenged by many of her rivals and Inspiral had to get to work early on in the straight, but once she set her eyes on her task it was very easy from there on in.
The lay off was clearly no issue as she galloped away from a classy field to win by just short of five lengths.
Relief for Dettori…
