Baaeed dominates in the Juddmonte to make it a perfect ten!

Baaeed

An extra two furlongs? No problem for the world’s best racehorse.

Baaeed has dominated the Mile category for over a year, having won all of his nine starts. Today he embarked on new territory running over 10 furlongs in the lucrative Juddmonte International at York. It’s been 50 years since the race first took place and there hasn’t been many to win as impressively as Baaeed.

His trainer, William Haggas, has batted away comparisons with the mighty Frankel who won the race 10 years ago at a breeze. Frankel went on to win the QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot after his precession at York in what was his final race, and it looks likely that Baaeed will follow suit and the race on QIPCO British Champions Day may well be his last.

All roads lead the Champions Day

Baaeed’s sire, Sea The Stars, won the Juddmonte International in 2009 before heading across the channel to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, but that route doesn’t look likely for Baaeed.

Following his spectacular performance, trainer Haggas said; “He’ll go for the Champions Stakes at Ascot,” he said. “You can’t do both (l’Arc de Triomphe) and we wanted our finale in the Champions Stakes, that’s always been our plan.”

It was a spectacular performance

A field of six headed to post for the feature on day one of the Sky Bet Ebor Festival, and last year’s race winner Mishriff looked to be Baaeed’s closest rival. Jim Crowley tucked behind safely behind Mishriff with the field being lead by Ryan Moore and High Definition. As James Doyle and Mishriff upped the pace, Crowley sat tight and travelled smoothly through the field.

Doyle got to work on his mount to try and stretch the field, but Baaeed continued to breeze and when Crowley squeezed the four-year-old, his prowess shone through a furlong and a half out and the colt stormed clear of the field in front of the packed grandstands on the Knavesmire.

The extra two furlongs proved no issue whatsoever and the Shadwell-owned Baaeed poured it on to win by an impressive six-and-a-half lengths.

What a sensational performance this was to make it a perfect 10 wins from 10.
