Quickthorn & Highfield Princess take the glory at York

Quickthorn produced a stunning performance to take the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup at York racecourse.

Ridden by Tom Marquand, he dictated the race from the outset.

After setting off with an early lead, Quickthorn never looked back and he extended his advantage to upwards of 10 lengths.

With the gap only getting bigger in the home straight, Marquand was able to finish the race in style, returning a winning distance of 14 lengths back to runner-up Coltrane.

With Stradivarius and Trueshan both absent, Quickthorn was given a golden opportunity to continue his rise up the staying ranks.

Highfield Princess blasted to a second Group One triumph within the space of 13 days and lead home a Yorkshire-trained 1-2-3 in the big Friday highlight at York.

Trained John Quinn, the five-year secured her second Group One victory in the space of a fortnight having scooped the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville earlier this month.
