Three-year-old filly Emily Upjohn roared back to form in style under Frankie Dettori to claim the QIPCO British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes.
Having last raced in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes the daughter of Sea The Stars showed no signs of ring rust, cruising into the lead and surging three lengths clear of Thunder Kiss and Insineundo.
Her win gave her 51-year-old rider Dettori a second win on the card, after Kinross claimed the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes.
Speaking immediately after the race to ITV the Italians rider proclaimed “I’m not retiring!”
“That was brilliant. It would’ve been heartbreaking not to win a Group 1 with this filly after what happened at Epsom. She’s won one now and I expect she’ll stay in training next year.
“Nothing went right for her (at Epsom), then she ran no race in the King George. So John and the owners decided to give her a break.
“She’d been giving me the wow factor in the last couple of mornings and the team have done an amazing job.”
