Enable – Born to win

Enable – ‘The Queen’ of racing. Bred by Juddmonte at Banstead Manor Stud, Cheveley, Enable is the daughter of Nathaniel. This came with the hope she would be able to emulate his success as she was born to win. The filly was ridden by Frankie Dettori on all bar two of her starts, and the pair enjoyed vast success.

Nathaniel was trained by John Gosden at Clarehaven Stables, just down the road from Banstead Manor. Gosden had dual Group 1 success with Nathaniel and would’ve considered his training greatly when it came to Enable.

Enable is Juddmonte’s most successful homebred racehorse by winning 11 Group 1s, include global success. The filly struck back-to-back wins in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and also secured Grade 1 success across the pond when winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Enable won seven British Champion Series races including the Oaks, Coral Eclipse and the Yorkshire Oaks. She also was victorious in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes a record three times at Ascot.

Her outstanding career was also recognised off the track, winning the 2017 Cartier Horse of the Year and 3YO Filly. Alongside that, she was voted Horse of the Year, Outstanding Filly/Mare and Outstanding Middle-Distance Horse at the annual Racehorse Owners Association Awards. A testament to how great she truly was.

From Clarehaven Stables to Banstead Manor Stud

After a defeat in the Arc, Prince Khalid Abdullah decided it was Enable’s time to retire to stud. He wished that she would retire to Juddmonte farms, where she was bred, and would be covered by Kingman.

Earlier this year on 11th February 2022, Enable gave birth to her first foal. A beautiful bay colt by Kingman, a foal you could say is born to win.

With the British breeding season on the horizon, who will be fortunate enough to cover the wonder mare next.
