Timepiece scored her first victory at Group 1 level this afternoon, springing a 16-1 shock in the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes, the fourth race in the Fillies & Mares division of the QIPCO BRitish Champions Series.

Tom Queally settled the Sir Henry Cecil-trained filly in second place in a very slowly run race and was in the perfect place to pounce as they approached the final furlong.

The hot favourite, Sahpresa, on the other hand, was settled at the back of the field by her jockey, Christophe Lemaire, and although she made up a vast amount of ground in the last furlong and a half, she had been set an impossible task and could never get on terms with the winner.

Timepiece passed the post a length and a quarter ahead of Sahpresa, with 40-1 shot First City in third.

It was a third QIPCO British Champions Series victory for both Cecil and Queally, following Frankel’s victories in the same Khalid Abdulla silks in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Queally is now outright leader in the Jockey of the Series table, while Cecil is in second place behind Aidan O’Brien, who has also had three victories but more second places.
