Midday put up a fine performance to run out a comfortable winner of today’s Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes on the final day of Glorious Goodwood, her third successive victory in the Group 1 fillies & mares contest.

The brilliant mare has now won six Group 1 races in her career and in the last three seasons has never finished out of the first three in 16 races.

Today’s victory extends the leads held by her trainer, Sir Henry Cecil, and jockey, Tom Queally, at the top of the QIPCO British Champions Series leaderboards, with Cecil’s standing in the table also boosted by saddling Principal Role to finish third in the race.

Both now have five wins to their name and are two winners clear in their respective tables after a fantastic Goodwood which saw them win both Group 1 contests courtesy of Frankel in the QIPCO Sussex Stakes on Wednesday and Midday this afternoon.

Queally settled Midday in third place and made his move three furlongs from home.

In front at the two furlong pole, she was always in command and stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to win by two lengths.

Snow Fairy could never get on terms and finished second, with Principal Role a length and a quarter back in third. Misty For Me was taken out of the race due to the fast ground.

A delighted Queally said: "She’s the queen of Goodwood now. She loves it here. She’s very special, she’s special to me and everyone at the yard. She’s a sweetheart.

"What a week – it’s been brilliant!”

Cecil reported that she is likely to try to run in the next QIPCO British Champions Series Fillies & Mares race, the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York on Thusday 18 August, a race she also won last year.
