The world’s biggest sporting occasions – like the Champions League final, the men’s final at Wimbledon or the Olympic 100 metres final – never fail to generate an atmosphere that crackles and sizzles.

The buzz of anticipation before the action begins, roars of excitement as the drama unfolds, grandstands pulsating with huge crowds, outcomes that really matter….QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot two weeks today (Saturday 15 October) will be just such an occasion.

With a sparkling cast featuring many of the world’s best throroughbred racehorses heading for a series of showdowns that will reverberate across the sporting world, it will be one of those events that will make your heart beat faster from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.

Today’s news is a sell-out in the Premier enclosure, while Grandstand tickets are fast disappearing – a big crowd generating an atmosphere to warm the coldest of hearts is assured!

"Grandstand tickets are still available at the advance booking price of £23.40, so don’t miss your chance to be part of what could be the greatest raceday this country has ever seen," said Rod Street, Chief Executive of British Champions Series Limited.

You only need to have a quick look at the likely runners in the day’s five championship races to appreciate what’s in store.

Race One, the £200,000 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup – Fame And Glory, brilliant winner of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, may look to end his season on a high against Opinion Poll, winner of the Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup, with Doncaster Cup winner Saddlers Rock a possible to be added to the entries next Monday and the highly talented Times Up looking like a threat to them all.

Race Two, the £250,000 QIPCO British Champions Sprint – Moonlight Cloud, the French-trained speed merchant who put up the best sprinting performance of the year in Europe when spreadeagling her rivals at Deauville in August, is facing a pulsating showdown with Deacon Blues, winner of his last four races, the fast improving Stewards Cup winner, Hoof It, the Golden Jubilee winner, Society Rock, and the tough and consistent Bated Breath.

Race Three, the £250,000 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes – two of Europe’s best three-year-old fillies, triple Group 1 race winner Blue Bunting and the English and German Oaks heroine, Dancing Rain, are set to battle it out with a clutch of top class older fillies and mares including Vita Nova, Crystal Capella and Ferdoos.

Race Four, the £1m Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (British Champions Mile) – the peerless Frankel, by the far the best racehorse in the world this year and potentially one of the greatest of all time, will seek his ninth straight victory against the best female miler in Europe, Immortal Verse, who easily beat the mighty Goldikova on her latest outing in France, with other Group 1 milers like Excelebration and Dick Turpin also possible contenders in a race that no one wants to miss.

Race Five, the £1.3m QIPCO Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) – the most valuable horserace ever staged in Britain is set to see Nathaniel, to date the highest-rated middle distance horse in the world this year after his brilliant King George victory at Ascot in July, tackle the horse trying for a record-equalling third consecutive Champion Stakes victory, Twice Over, the star mare Midday, French ace Cirrus Des Aigles and quite possibly the French Derby winner Reliable Man, the Queen’s best racehorse in many years, Carlton House, and the ex-Australian superstar, So You Think, who will first tackle tomorrow’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
