Giavellotto wins second Boodles Yorkshire Cup

Giavellotto

Giavellotto proved much the best on the Knavesmire yet again as he put in a brilliant performance to win his second Boodles Yorkshire Cup.

The Marco Botti-trained five-year-old travelled supremely and took up the running from Vauban with two furlongs to go. In winning the race for a second successive year he emulates the feats of legendary stayers Ardross and Stradivarius.

Willie Mullins’s former Triumph Hurdle winner Vauban was four and three-quarter lengths back in second, with Gregory behind in third.

Speaking to ITV Racing immediately post-race, wining rider Oisin Murphy commented: “Marco (Botti) is having a terrific season and has trained great horses in the past, and his handling of this fella has been amazing.

“This is Andrea’s (Atzeni) ride but he’s having a brilliant time in Hong Kong and couldn’t be here today. He’s been incredibly helpful with advice on how to ride, so my thanks goes to him.”
