Enables trounces rivals in Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Enable trounced her rivals in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly.

No British-trained filly had previously won the feature, but the triple QIPCO British Champions Series winner showed she is something out of the ordinary by making racing history as she win her fifth Group One race in succession.

The winner of the Investec Oaks, Irish Oaks, Darley Yorkshire Oaks and QIPCO-sponsored King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Enable never looked like fluffing her lines.

Enable’s tactical speed meant Dettori could place the Evens favourite just where he wanted and make his move at the right time for him.

Leading inside the two-furlong marker, Enable pulled away to score by two and a half lengths from Cloth Of Stars, with Ulysses, another dual Series winner,third.

Dettori, winning the Arc for an unprecedented fifth time, said: “I was very confident all week…she is a tremendous filly. I said to John last week she is the best she has ever been. To keep this filly at 100 per cent all year is fantastic.

“I had position ‘A’, I knew I had no weight and she stays, so I kicked and she gave me four lengths and the race was over.”

Gosden hinted there is every chance the filly will stay in training as a four-year-old and again grrce the Champions Series.

He said: “She’s very special and she was well positioned by Frankie in order to show her sheer class and brilliance. I think it would be wrong to run her again this year.

“If she’s in great form we should consider next year. She has only raced for 10 months of her life.”

Order Of St George (fourth) fared best of Aidan O’Brien’s five runners. Winter, a triple Series winner this year, could finish only ninth stepped up to 1m 4f for the first time, with Capri, the William Hill St Leger winner, beating only one home in the 18-runner line-up.
