Baaeed Crowned Horse of the Year 2022 at the Cartier Awards

The Cartier awards is the ultimate accolade in the racing world to win, recognising the best of the best. Five stars of QIPCO British Champions Series were crowned winners on the evening across all series categories.

The brilliant Baaeed registered his first accolade off the track, winning both the Cartier Horse of the Year 2022 and Older Horse of the Year. The star was nominated alongside many greats including Alpinista, Highfield Princess and Kyprios but prevailed after an astonishing year on track.

Baaeed’s most renowned victory is when he stepped up to a mile and a quarter in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York.

After winning 4 group 1’s this season and only beaten on his final start in the Champion Stakes, Shadwell took the prize for the first time.

After an unbeaten year, Kyprios won stayer of the year winning four group ones across Europe. This year, the Ballydoyle colt was victorious in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and then a month later in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup. Both races within the long-distance category of the series.

Inspiral success has been up and down over the year. She won the Coronation Cup in the summer but then just missed out in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes in Newmarket. However, this didn’t stop her being recognized as 3-year-old filly of the year, beating stablemates Nashwa and Emily Upjohn.

Inspiral has been recognized two years in a row at the cartier awards as being crowned 2-year-olf filly of the year 2021.

Highfield Princess crowning glory

There were many great European sprinters that graced the stage in 2022. It was the Nunthorpe Stakes winner Highfield Princess that took the crown, beating Minzaal, Nature Strip and Kinross, all of whom have registered series wins in 2022.

Vadeni took the prize as Three-year-old colt for the Aga Khan team. The French star stormed home in the Coral Eclipse beating the likes of Mishriff and Native Trail.
