So You Think wins easily in Ireland. Image courtesy of racingfotos.com
So You Think, the easy winner of his first two starts in Ireland for Aidan O’Brien this year after previously creating a huge impression in Australia, makes his eagerly awaited British debut in tomorrow’s Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
It’s race three in the QIPCO British Champions Series Middle Distance category and with the improving French-trained Planteur, also a winner of both his starts this year, and the dual Champion Stakes winner, Twice Over, up against him, this will provide So You Think with his first big European test.
Frankie Dettori’s mount, Rewilding, who was impressive when winning on Dubai World Cup night in March, is another fascinating contender.
"He hadn’t done anything serious at home and we had just been playing with him at home for his first two starts," O’Brien said of So You Think this week.
"He’s had two easy runs, and his work has been getting a little bit more serious since, so it will be interesting to see.
"Obviously we were very happy with him at the Curragh in the Tattersalls (Gold Cup), but this will be another jump up with more serious contenders to run against him, so it will be interesting."
The race promises to be a cracker. Will So You Think destroys his rivals as many people are predicting or has he been over-hyped?
He is unbeaten in six starts over this mile and a quarter distance and if he is beaten tomorrow it will certainly be a surprise, but one which the bookmakers would welcome. After Frankel started 30-100 favourite in today’s St James’s Palace Stakes, So You Think may be almost as short a priced favourite by the time the Prince of Wales’s is off at 3.45pm.
Make sure you don’t miss it on the BBC.
