Sahpresa targets a third Newmarket victory

Trained in France by Rod Collet, Sahpresa has made the journey to Newmarket in October of the last two years to plunder a major race.

Those victories in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes were both achieved on the Rowley Mile course, but tomorrow she tackles the straight mile on Newmarket’s summer track, the July Course, in the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes, the fourth race in the QIPCO British Champions Series Fillies & Mares division.

The top class, 11-strong field for the big race on day two of Newmarket’s magical Piper Heidsieck July Festival has a very strong international element, with a second French challenger and a raider from South Africa also in the line-up.

Sahpresa easily won on her seasonal reappearance in France last month and is likely to prove very hard to beat tomorrow, although Frankie Dettori will be doing his best to register a third QIPCO British Champions Series victory of the year on board Antara.

The partnership won a race at Epsom last month, but this represents a big step up in class.

The second French challenger, Lily Of The Valley, boasts top class form from last season, while River Jetez, trained in South Africa by Mike De Kock, must have a big chance judged on her runs in Dubai and Singapore earlier this year.

The race is due off at 3pm and will be shown live on Channel 4.
