Frankel impresses in his final work-out

Frankel came through his final piece of work with flying colours this morning ahead of the biggest assignment of his career in the £1m Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, one of the highlights of QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot a week tomorrow.

Covering seven and a half furlongs on the Watered Gallop, adjacent to Newmarket’s Rowley Mile racecourse, the Sir Henry Cecil-trained colt effortlessly stretched five lengths clear of his lead horse, his three-parts brother Bullet Train.

With his big race jockey, Tom Queally, in the saddle, Frankel looked in fantastic shape for his final race of the season on Britain’s richest ever raceday.

Twice Over and Midday also worked well with their lead horses in preparation for their assignment in the £1.3m QIPCO Champion Stakes, the race which follows Frankel’s. 

Ian Mongan, who rode Twice Over in his work having landed his first ever Group 1 race victory on the evergreen six-year-old in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August, commented afterwards: "He’s in the form of life".

Mongan will keep the ride tomorrow week, with Queally partnering Midday, the runner-up in the Juddmonte International having won her third Nassau Stakes at Goodwood the previous month.

Vita Nova, Cecil’s potential challenger in the QIPCO British Champion Fllies & Mares Stakes, the race which precedes the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on the £3m card, will work tomorrow before a decision about her participation is made.
