Mosse set to be reunited with Reckless Abandon

Gerald Mosse may be 46, but he has been riding in the form of his life in the UK recently, winning the top jockey prize at the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup and winning good races since for Mark Johnston and Ed Dunlop.

Now he is provisionally set to be reunited with one of Clive Cox’s stable stars, Reckless Abandon.

Mosse rode the colt three times last year, winning a Group 2 and two Group 1s on him as he went through his two-year-old season unbeaten.

With Cox’s stable jockey, Adam Kirby, set to maintain his brilliant partnership with Lethal Force, who landed the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Darley July Cup at Newmarket, the two stable companions could be on course to clash for the first time in their careers in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock Park a week tomorrow, race six in the Sprint division of the QIPCO British Champions Series.

Reckless Abandon has had his problems this year and has run only twice – third place in the Betfred Temple Stakes at Haydock Park and fifth in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Cox has always said he would win a top sprint race and if he has him back to his best form, then Mosse will fancy his chances of maintaining his unbeaten record on him.

Things may change, of course – everything will hinge on how the two standard bearers in Clive Cox’s yard are on Monday morning when the confirmations for the race will be made.

Crucuially for Lethal Force, who relishes fast ground, there does not appear to be too much rain forecast for Haydock Park next week.

Reckless Abandon is fine with fast ground too, but he has won on Good-to-Soft so a bit of rain would be unlikely to hinder his chances.

With Society Rock out to win back-to-back runnings of the race after giving best to Lethal Force in the Diamond Jubilee and Darley July Cup, it promises to be another cracking Series sprint!
