A full sister to 2012 Epsom Oaks winner Was claimed a world record as the most expensive yearling ever to have been bought at auction when she was sold for an incredible 5 million Guineas at Tattersalls in Newmarket.
Horses have traditionally been bought in Guineas, with one Guinea equating to £1.05, making her price in sterling a whopping £5,250,000. The price breaks the all-time record for a horse sold at a European auction and is a world-record for a yearling filly.
The filly was sold at Tattersalls in Newmarket, the oldest bloodstock auctioneers in the world and the largest in Europe.
The, as yet unnamed, filly is the daughter of the most sought after stallion on the planet, Galileo, who enjoyed a highly successful track career before retiring to stud. His other progeny include Frankel, the World’s highest-rated racehorse, who himself retired to stud last year following an unbeaten 14 race career.
She was bought by bloodstock agents Mandore International for Al Shaqab Racing, which is owned by Sheikh Joaan Al Thani of Qatar, an emerging powerhouse of the turf, whose other filly Treve, won the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris on Sunday. He also owns Champions Series star Toronado.
