Solow on course for #ChampionsDay battle

Trainer Freddy Head has declared himself "very happy" after Solow came through a racecourse gallop at Maisons-Laffitte on Monday afternoon ahead of his anticipated battle in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day.

The brilliant miler remains on course for a potential battle with QIPCO 2000 Guineas hero Gleneagles at Ascot on Saturday 17 October.

Since his spectacular display at Meydan in March he has won the Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp, the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

As a five-year-old gelding, Solow’s trainer has purposefully not over-raced him this season with the intention of a long-lasting career.

"The horse is very well," Head told the Press Association. "Maxime Guyon was very pleased with him and said his action felt good and all is well. It was a strong piece of work with two companions, they went a good pace.

"The ground would have been good to soft and he appears to have kept his form really well, despite being on the go since March. 

"I couldn’t be happier with him, I just hope there is a little bit of soft in the ground at Ascot and to be fair there usually is in October."
