With the British Flat Season now drawn to a close, the last chances for the QIPCO British Champions Series heroes to record a success before taking a winter break will come at the Breeders’ Cup in Keeneland and in the Melbourne Cup in Flemington over the next seven days.

Here we take a look at who is in action and whether they can conquer the international stage.

Breeders’ Cup

Golden Horn and Found

Investec Derby and Coral-Eclipse hero Golden Horn has swept, virtually, all before him aside this season in the Series. From bursting onto the scene in the Fielden Stakes at Newmarket to being crowned Derby champion, the John Gosden-trained three-year-old will hope to sign-off to stud with a final victory in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, after his superb display to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.

However, in his way stands QIPCO Champion Stakes runner-up, Found. After rallying late on to just be denied by Fascinating Rock on Champions Day, connections will be hoping she can bow out for the season with a deserved victory.

Gleneagles

The QIPCO 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes champion returned after a near four-month lay-off in the QEII on QIPCO British Champion Day, and will now look to record a famous victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

But, Triple Crown champion and US star American Pharoah stands in his way.

Esoterique and Time Test

Esoterique has had quite a season. Second in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot behind Solow, the Andre Fabre-trained heroine would go on to win the Prix Jacques le Marois and the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes.

She now tops the betting for the Breeders’ Cup Mile, where she is set to face the potentially very exciting Time Test – the emphatic winner of the Tercentenary Stakes at the Royal meeting earlier this season.

Legatissimo and Miss France

The battle of the QIPCO 1000 Guineas winners.

This year’s winner Legatissimo and last season’s champion Miss France will do battle in Keeneland to win the Breeders’ Cup Filly And Mare Turf.

Miss France’s form has dipped slightly since her superb Classic campaign, but Legatissimo looks the one to beat, having also come mightily close to winning the Investec Oaks and romping her rivals in the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Melbourne Cup

The ‘race that stops a nation’ will see several British contenders head Down Under to bring the crown back to Blighty.

Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris and Australia-adopted star Red Cadeaux lead the pack of contenders including Hardwicke Stakes winner Snow Sky and Goodwood Cup champion Big Orange.

Ireland is well represented with Lonsdale Cup winner Max Dynamite, Gold Cup runner-up Kingfisher and St Leger second Bondi Beach set for the lucrative Flemington contest. The race takes place early on Tuesday morning.
