John Gosden set for South American samba with Argentinian star

John Gosden is synonymous with training home-grown superstars, such as The Fugue, Kingman and most recently Golden Horn.

But, an acquisition from abroad in the heart of Argentina – the capital Buenos Aires – could potentially give the prestigious Newmarket-based Clarehaven Stables a South American flavour this season.

The eight-time British Classic-winning trainer, during the off-season, purchased the three-time Group 1 heroine, Furia Cruzada.

We take a look at the Chilean-bred horse in action and why the four-year-old star could emerge as an unlikely middle distance contender in 2016.

Dancing the Argentinian tango to Group 1 glory

The Gran Premio Gilberto Leren in the Argentinian capital is a leading contest for middle distance horses on the turf.

In Furia Cruzada’s victory, watch as she edges clear of the favourite Top Julliette in style. We can see why Gosden was taken by her.

Watching her stride clear to another triumph in the Gran Premio Criadores confirmed the sale for the Series star.

A shorter triumph than previously seen at the track, her tenacious qualities will come in handy for the fiercely-competitive contests in Britain this season.

So what next?

Furia Cruzada has been entered to run in the Winter Derby at Lingfield Park in the coming months, with a campaign being divised that could potentially see her entered in the best middle distance contests in the year.

A tilt at the QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day could be in the offing. Whatever happens, she is certainly a mare to keep an eye on this campaign.
