Trixia on course to fly the flag for France in Guineas

The unbeaten Trixia could form part of a strong French challenge for the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 1.

Alain de Royer-Dupre, her trainer, said today that the daughter of Siyouni would contest the second race in the QIPCO British Champions Series provided she comes through her return run next month with flying colours.

“I am thinking about the QIPCO 1000 Guineas for Trixia,” Royer-Dupre said. “She has been entered in the Prix Imprudence [at Maisons-Laffitte on April 7] and if she went there and ran well she would probably go to Newmarket.”

Trixia won all four of her races last year, including a group three event at Deauville in October, when trained by Frederic Rossi. She has since joined Royer-Dupre and is generally quoted at 20-1 for the Guineas.

Left Hand or Sasparella, owned and bred by the Wertheimer brothers, will represent Carlos Laffon-Parias in the fillies Classic, while Andre Fabre, the serial French champion, could be represented by Pleasemetoo.

“I would like to keep them apart,” Laffon-Parias said: “Sasparella will probably head for the Prix Imprudence while we will find something else for Left Hand. If they both win their comeback races one will go to Newmarket and the other will run in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches [French Guineas].”

Royer-Dupre is considering a tilt at the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on April 30 with Vedevani but Fabre has ruled out running the unbeaten Ultra in the £500,000 feature, which launches the QIPCO British Champions Series.

“Ultra will not take up his entry in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas,” Fabre said. “He will have a prep race before running in the Derby.”
