So Mi Dar enhances her Investec Oaks claims

So Mi Dar trounced the opposition in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York today and is now generally 5-2 to win next month’s Investec Oaks at Epsom.

The John Gosden-trained filly surged clear in the final stages under Frankie Dettori and beat Fireglow, who had finished fourth to Minding in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas, by four lengths.

So Mi Dar, now unbeaten in three starts, looked every inch a future QIPCO British Champions Series winner although, with the Oaks in mind, it is worth noting she is a nervy type who raced a bit keenly having been held up in rear early on.

She will have an extra two furlongs and a stiffer track to negotiate on June 3 but Dettori predicted: “She’ll give me a good spin around Epsom.”

Earlier, the Dettori-ridden Magical Memory confirmed he is going to be a significant player in the Sprint Category of this year’s QIPCO British  Champions Series with a fluent success  in the Duke Of Clipper Stakes.

The grey tanked along near the head of affairs in the 6f feature and, despite idling, was not fully extended to repel Suedois and Danzeno in the latter stages. Twilight Son, winner of the Sprint Cup last season, kept on to finish fifth on his return without ever looking like getting into contention under his penalty.

Had the winner got a tow for a little longer he might have won in even more commanding fashion.

“You have to time it quite right with him because he gets there quick and then he stops – he thinks he’s got the job done,” Dettori said. “If he keeps on progressing like this, he should win a Group One.”

Magical Memory, trained by Charlie Hills, will now head for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 18 – the third race in the Sprint Category of this year’s QIPCO British Champions Series. After that, the Darley July Cup at Newmarket will be on his agenda.
