Jet Setting has eyes on Coronation crown

Jet Setting will add another chapter to her remarkable story when she runs in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.

Having failed to win in five starts as a two-year-old, she was sold for just 12,000gns in late October last year. However, on Monday night she changed hands again, but this time for £1.3 million at the Goffs London Sale, sponsored by QIPCO, having since defeated Minding in the Tattersalls 1000 Guineas at the Curragh last month.

The filly will carry the colours of new owners China Horse Club and trainer Adrian Keatley is hopeful the daughter of Fast Company can provide them with a swift return.

“It’s snowballed from the time we brought her [in October] and it’s been a great journey,” Keatley said. “Hopefully we can prove she was a good purchase at Ascot on Friday, where I think she will be hard to beat.

“She justified our faith in her in the Irish Guineas and she’s thrived since. It was a brilliant performance and Minding showed how good she was in the same type of ground in the Oaks.”

An incredible sequence will be extended if Shane Foley, who has never ridden in the race, is successful. In the past 18 years no jockey has won the Coronation Stakes more than once.

Jet Setting and Minding pulled ten lengths clear of Now Or Never in the Irish 1000 Guineas, with Tanaza further back in seventh.

Aidan O’Brien last won the Coronation in 2010 with Lillie Langtry, the dam of Minding, his dual Classic winner. He relies on Alice Springs, who kept on when third to Minding in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last month, with Fireglow (fourth) and Nathra (fifth) behind. Nathra, trained by John Gosden, has since finished second in the French 1000 Guineas at Deauville, where she finished ahead of Qemah (third) and Besharah (fourth). Besharah, last year’s Lowther winner, had earlier finished third to the imposing Marenko in the Group Three Betfred TV Fred Darling Stakes at Chelmsford.

Nemoraliah looked destined for the top when streaking six lengths clear in a Listed race at York last month. Jeremy Noseda, her trainer, will be hoping the ground dries out because he believes fast going is imperative for her. The Kevin Ryan-trained Ashadihan won the Group Three Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes, sponsored by Betfred, at Lingfield Park last month. Czabo and Promising Run complete the 13-runner line-up.
