Dancing Star and Mehronissa have been supplemented for the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday.

The Andrew Balding-trained Dancing Star booked her place in the Group One with a clear-cut victory in the Stewards’ Cup, while Ed Vaughan’s Mehronissa came into the reckoning by winning the Listed Flying Fillies’ Stakes at Pontefract last month.

Twilight Son and stablemate Limato were among 19 horses left in the six-furlong QIPCO British Champions Series showpiece at the five-day confirmation stage.

Darley July Cup winner Limato, who was runner-up in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on his latest start, may take his chance if trainer Henry Candy considers the ground too quick for last year’s victor.

“If it came up too firm for Twilight Son and if Limato looked in the sort of form that he could cope with it, then he would run,” said the Wantage handler.

“It would be the closest between races that he’s ever attempted. He’s in good form.”

Another past winner on the list is Gordon Lord Byron, successful for trainer Tom Hogan in 2013.

Eddie Lynam’s veteran Sole Power and the Joe Murphy-trained three-year-old Only Mine are the other Irish possibles.

The Charlie Hills-trained Magical Memory is likely to try again after just being touched off in third place 12 months ago.

Strath Burn, who was only beaten a short head by Twilight Son when second in 2015 for Hills, is now with trainer Robert Cowell.

Karl Burke’s Commonwealth Cup winner Quiet Reflection is set to take her chance, while James Fanshawe’s The Tin Man is an interesting contender.

The others in the mix are Goken, Suedois, Ajaya, Donjuan Triumphant, Kachy, Mr Lupton, Divine and Jane’s Memory.
